ISIN: IE00B5BMR087<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishares.com\/uk\/individual\/en\/products\/253743\/ishares-sp-500-b-ucits-etf-acc-fund\">CSPX<\/a> (iShares Core S&amp;P 500 UCITS ETF (Acc.))<\/strong> is an ETF tracking the S&amp;P 500 &#8211; an index composed of the largest US companies weighted by <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/market-cap-vs-fully-diluted-valuation-fdv-explanation-practical-analysis\/\">market cap<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It has a <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/total-expense-ratio-the-importance-of-keeping-it-low\">TER<\/a> of 0.07% and it&#8217;s an\u00a0<em>accumulating fund\u00a0<\/em>(it reinvests the dividends instead of distributing them to investors).<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the fund manages $55b worth of assets.<\/p>\n<p>CSPX is one of the go-to options for the US allocation for many investors.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"IUSA\"><\/span>IUSA<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>Ticker symbols: IUSA, IDUS; ISIN: IE0031442068<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishares.com\/uk\/individual\/en\/products\/251900\/ishares-sp-500-ucits-etf-inc-fund\">IUSA<\/a> (iShares Core S&amp;P 500 UCITS ETF) <\/strong>is also an <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/etfs-exchange-traded-funds\/\">ETF<\/a> tracking the S&amp;P 500 offered by iShares.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the <em>distributing<\/em> equivalent of CSPX. They&#8217;re both offered by iShares, having all the same characteristics, with the only difference being that IUSA <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/dividend-investing-is-for-suckers\">pays dividends to shareholders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Same as CSPX, its TER is 0.07%.<\/p>\n<p>The funds currently holds $12b worth of assets and it&#8217;s also one of the ETFs that&#8217;s commonly held by European investors.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"VUSA\"><\/span>VUSA<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>Ticker symbols: VUSA, VUSD; ISIN: IE00B3XXRP09<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk\/investments\/vanguard-s-and-p-500-ucits-etf-usd-distributing\">VUSA<\/a> (Vanguard S&amp;P 500 UCITS ETF)<\/strong> is almost the same as IUSA, but this ETF is offered by Vanguard.<\/p>\n<p>They have exactly the same characteristics: both track the S&amp;P 500, have 0.07% expense ratio, and pay out dividends.<\/p>\n<p>The only differences are that VUSA is a larger fund (manages $27b worth of assets) and does full replication of the S&amp;P 500. IUSA does optimized sampling of the index, which means that the performance of VUSA is closer to that of the S&amp;P 500. This is a minor difference so please don&#8217;t feel like you&#8217;ve made a &#8220;mistake&#8221; if you already hold IUSA.<\/p>\n<p>As can be seen by the total assets, VUSA is the preferred option for many investors.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CSPX_vs_VUSAIUSA\"><\/span>CSPX vs VUSA\/IUSA<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>All three ETFs are very similar to each other. So there&#8217;s no surprise why many investors are unsure which one to pick.<\/p>\n<p>The main difference between them is their <strong>distribution policy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CSPX <\/strong>reinvests the dividend income in the fund<\/li>\n<li><strong>VUSA\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>IUSA\u00a0<\/strong>are paying out the dividends to shareholders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This means that the amount of expenses you&#8217;d have depends on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/dividend-leakage-understanding-the-hidden-cost\/\">dividend tax<\/a>\u00a0treatment in your country. However, rather than leaving it at\u00a0<em>&#8220;it depends&#8221;<\/em>, I&#8217;d like to give an actual answer.<\/p>\n<p>I actually have a strong preference for one of these ETFs before the others, even if we assume that dividends aren&#8217;t taxed at all.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Petkovskis_Choice_CSPX\"><\/span>Petkovski&#8217;s Choice: <strong>CSPX<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Why do I choose CSPX, although these ETFs have the same\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/total-expense-ratio-the-importance-of-keeping-it-low\"><strong>expense ratio<\/strong><\/a> and we assume there are no <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/investing-expenses-full-breakdown\/\"><strong>extra costs<\/strong><\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s simple: <strong>I prefer accumulating to distributing ETFs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course, it boils down to preference, but my opinion is that <strong>every<\/strong> investor should <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/accumulating-vs-distributing-etfs\">prefer accumulating funds to distributing funds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Let me explain why you should as well.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Accumulating_Funds\"><\/span>Why Accumulating Funds?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Since you&#8217;re comparing CSPX vs VUSA, you&#8217;re probably still in the <em>&#8220;accumulation phase&#8221;<\/em> (you&#8217;re investing rather than living off of your investments). Also, you&#8217;re analyzing S&amp;P 500 funds, which means you&#8217;re into <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/index-investing-index-funds-a-gentle-introduction\/\"><em>index investing<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These statements bring us to the conclusion that you&#8217;re looking for a long-term vehicle to park your extra money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Given the assumption, why would you like the fund to <em>take out a part of its value<\/em> in order to give you <em>more cash <\/em>every quarter?<\/p>\n<p><em>Cash<\/em> is what you&#8217;re trying to get rid of in the first place &#8211; that&#8217;s why you&#8217;re investing.<\/p>\n<p>There are only two things that you could do with some extra money every quarter:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Buy something <\/strong>(doesn&#8217;t make sense &#8211; you already have surplus money)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reinvest it\u00a0<\/strong>(or you can just let the fund do it for you in the first place)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Remember, <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/dividend-investing-is-for-suckers\">dividends don&#8217;t materialize<\/a> into investors&#8217; accounts.
