Here&#8217;s the chart of $BTC, losing 50%+ of its market cap within days:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2744 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/dpetkovski\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/btc-covid.png\" alt=\"btc-covid\" width=\"732\" height=\"568\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Assets&#8217; prices were bleeding but I was religiously following my <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/dca-dollar-cost-averaging-investment-strategy-explained\">DCA schedule<\/a>. <em>&#8220;Time in the market beats timing the market&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>and dumped all my savings in my portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a little bit about me back then&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I was already serious about investing, but the majority of my portfolio was in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/why-the-stock-market-always-goes-up\">stock market<\/a>. I did own some crypto, mainly $BTC and $ETH that I accumulated during the 2018\/2019 bear market. However, this was around 10-15% of my investment portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t completely <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/the-inevitability-of-bitcoin\/\">orange-pilled<\/a> but I had market experience and understanding of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/the-4-year-cycle-bitcoin-price-prediction\">4 year cycles<\/a> due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/bitcoin-block-reward-halving-explanation-price-impact\/\">Bitcoin halving<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This gave me a strong conviction that $BTC is either infinity or $0 in the long run, and that it&#8217;ll <strong>at least <\/strong>reach its all time high in 12-18 months after the halving, pulling the altcoin market with it.<\/p>\n<p>The crash was an opportunity to enter crypto more heavily and position myself for what&#8217;s coming our way.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Buy_Orders_From_2020\"><\/span>Buy Orders From 2020<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ether was trading around $150-200 back then.<\/p>\n<p>My thought process was: even if it comes back to its previous all-time-high of ~$1,200, that&#8217;s a massive win! Especially for a <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/cash-vs-stocks-in-30-years\">stock investor<\/a>&#8216;s mind that normalized that <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/index-investing-index-funds-a-gentle-introduction\/\"><em>&#8220;you can&#8217;t beat the market&#8221;<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, here are my entries during 2020:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2359 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/dpetkovski\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ETHPurchase2020.png\" alt=\"eth purchase\" width=\"443\" height=\"484\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I want to point out that I didn&#8217;t necessarily tried to time the absolute bottom.<\/p>\n<p>As long as the price was below $250 or on local dips, I was scooping up more $ETH.<\/p>\n<p>From today&#8217;s perspective, it sounds mind-blowing that a working-class person could accumulate 10-20 $ETH per month.<\/p>\n<p>But there I was.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sell_Orders_From_2021\"><\/span>Sell Orders From 2021<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/the-4-year-cycle-bitcoin-price-prediction\">4 year cycle theory<\/a>, mid-late 2021 was the year to exit crypto.<\/p>\n<p>And as you can see here, I also didn&#8217;t try to time the absolute top.<\/p>\n<p>I was accumulating around \u20ac150-200, so any exit above \u20ac2,500 was an extreme overperformance of anything I&#8217;ve experienced so far.<\/p>\n<p>This is my cost averaging out of $ETH:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2362\" style=\"width: 459px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2362\" class=\"wp-image-2362 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/dpetkovski\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ETHSell2021-1.png\" alt=\"eth sell\" width=\"449\" height=\"583\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2362\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I switched Coinbase for Kraken as my main exchange. I preferred a platform with a human customer support team.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>TLDR I exited the market with mid 6 figures in profits. And I can proudly say that I&#8217;m one of the few that didn&#8217;t end up bagholding into the depths of the subsequent bear market.<\/p>\n<p>After the crypto bubble of 2021 burst at the end of the year, I <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/rebalancing-managing-your-investment-portfolio\/\">re-allocated<\/a> most of my profits into the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/why-the-stock-market-always-goes-up\/\">stock market<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I simply bought more of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/etfs-exchange-traded-funds\/\">ETFs<\/a> that I already held (<a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/core-stock-portfolio-for-eu-investors-etf-selection-tips\/\">see more details if interested<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2020-2021_Bull_Market_Commentary\"><\/span>2020-2021 Bull Market Commentary<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>First cyclers can&#8217;t comprehend how a crypto bull market unravels.<\/p>\n<p>Remember the image of the brutal Covid crash from above?<\/p>\n<p>Well, towards the end of 2020, Bitcoin surpassed its previous all time high. And in the next year, $BTC peaked at\u00a0~$69k. \ud83e\udd2f<\/p>\n<p>Note the crash of 2020 circled in red:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2750 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/dpetkovski\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/btc-2021.png\" alt=\"btc-2021\" width=\"829\" height=\"553\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Based on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/the-4-year-cycle-bitcoin-price-prediction\"><strong>4 year cycle<\/strong><\/a>, we&#8217;re at a similar stage &#8211; ATH in the year of the Bitcoin halving, preparing for the mania phase.<\/p>\n<p>Make the most out of it.<\/p>\n<p>Or don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Do whatever you think is right.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Am_I_Doing_This_Cycle\"><\/span>What Am I Doing This Cycle<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many n00bs will feel motivated and run to buy due to FOMO (fear of missing out).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Be careful!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re inexperienced, you&#8217;re most probably buying the top and will lose everything.<\/p>\n<p>I already did most of my buying during the depths of the bear market, so it&#8217;d be irresponsible for me to recommend anything to anyone as of now.<\/p>\n<p>Below are my $BTC <strong>sell orders<\/strong> from 2021 and <strong>buy orders<\/strong> from\u00a02022 and 2023:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1349 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/dpetkovski\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/btc2.png\" alt=\"btc-buys\" width=\"817\" height=\"702\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, my portfolio already surpassed 7 figures this year.<\/p>\n<p>If I can summarize a veteran tip in a single sentence, it would be:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stick to high-conviction assets so that allocating with size can be done unemotionally and feels comfortable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course, that&#8217;s easier said than done, so take your time.<\/p>\n<p>The most important thing is to build a strong foundational knowledge about the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/how-the-money-printer-makes-you-poor\">monetary system<\/a> and the asset class you&#8217;re entering, whether that&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/the-inevitability-of-bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/why-the-stock-market-always-goes-up\/\">stocks<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/5-common-crypto-scams\/\">crypto<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/p2p-lending-sucks-3-reasons-i-avoid-peer-to-peer-platforms\">falling for other scams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy losing money!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I often talk about crypto cycles and their relevance for timing entries and exits.
