Also, it&#8217;s an\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/accumulating-vs-distributing-etfs\/\">accumulating fund<\/a>, <\/em>which mean that it reinvests the received dividends instead of distributing them to investors.<\/p>\n<p>This ETF is one of the common picks for the <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/asset-allocation-finding-your-ideal-distribution\/\">US allocation<\/a> for many investors.<\/p>\n<p>Both $CSPX and $SXR8 are ticker symbols referring to this fund.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Do_ETFs_Have_Multiple_Tickers\"><\/span>Why Do ETFs Have Multiple Tickers?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>First of all, I&#8217;ll clear up a misconception: funds aren&#8217;t uniquely identified by their tickers, but by an <strong>ISIN\u00a0<\/strong>(International Securities Identification Number).<\/p>\n<p>The reason some ETFs have multiple tickers is because they may be listed on different exchanges and\/or in different currencies.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you may be able to buy\u00a0<strong>the same fund<\/strong> on the London Stock Exchange in $GBP <strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>on the Euronext Amsterdam in $EUR.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these options would be available through your broker and distinguishable by their tickers. Visiting the ETF&#8217;s page on the provider&#8217;s website (such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishares.com\/uk\/individual\/en\/products\/253743\/ishares-sp-500-b-ucits-etf-acc-fund\">iShares<\/a>) or any ETF aggregator (such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justetf.com\/en\/etf-profile.html?isin=IE00B5BMR087\">JustETF<\/a>) will show you all the exchange listings for a particular fund.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, an ETF can have the same ticker across exchanges, so searching for a single ticker symbol may give you more results. Then you can check the extra information or a suffix after the ticker to understand what it&#8217;s referring to.<\/p>\n<p>For example, XXX.L and XXX.AS would mean that you&#8217;re looking at the same ETF, but listed on the London Stock Exchange and Euronext Amsterdam (suffix L vs AS).<\/p>\n<p>With all that being said, we can finally answer the question.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CSPX_vs_SXR8_Explained\"><\/span>CSPX vs SXR8 Explained<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Both <strong>$CSPX<\/strong> and <strong>$SXR8<\/strong> refer to the same fund &#8211; the accumulating iShares Core S&amp;P 500 UCITS ETF, with the ISIN IE00B5BMR087.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SXR8 is the listing on the German XETRA exchange<\/li>\n<li>CSPX is the listing on Dutch Euronext Amsterdam (among others)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Below is a screenshot from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishares.com\/uk\/individual\/en\/products\/253743\/ishares-sp-500-b-ucits-etf-acc-fund\">iShares page of the ETF<\/a> showing all exchange listings and their respective tickers:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3269 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/dpetkovski\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/cspx-listings.png\" alt=\"cspx-vs-sxr8\" width=\"995\" height=\"491\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, it&#8217;s not only $CSPX vs $SXR8, but there are also a couple more ticker symbols. But they all refer to the same fund.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t confuse what you learned while comparing <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/cspx-vs-vusa-vs-iusa-my-thoughts\">$CSPX with $IUSA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although quite similar, those two refer to two different ETFs with different <a href=\"https:\/\/dpetkovski.com\/accumulating-vs-distributing-etfs\/\">distribution policies<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>iShares Core S&amp;P 500 UCITS ETF (Acc.) &#8211; the accumulating fund we&#8217;re discussing in this post (ISIN: IE00B5BMR087)<\/li>\n<li>iShares Core S&amp;P 500 UCITS ETF (Dist.) &#8211; the distributing fund (ISIN: IE0031442068)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Know_Which_One_to_Choose\"><\/span>How to Know Which One to Choose?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>After you determined which ETF you want, the dilemma of which ticker to select boils down to two factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The currency you want to buy with<\/li>\n<li>The listing available through your broker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If an option satisfies both of these, you can&#8217;t go wrong.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d just add that some brokers (such as Degiro) charge (small) annual fees per exchange connection. So if you already hold ETFs that are listed on a certain exchange, you might prefer ETFs listed on the same one.
